Así va el desminado por parte del Ejército

Más de 67 mil metros cuadrados del departamento del Meta que se encontraban contaminados por minas antipersonal, han logrado despejar éste año los soldados del Batallón de Ingenieros de Desminado Humanitario No. 4.

A los desminadores se suman ahora máquinas barreminas manipuladas a control remoto. Esta técnica de desminado mecánico inició en la vereda Costa Rica del municipio de Vistahermosa.

Se espera que estas máquinas permitan agilizar el desminado humanitario, indicó el teniente coronel Ricardo Sanjuanes Medina, comandante del Batallón de Desminado: “dependiendo de la condición del terreno utilizamos éstas máquinas. La idea es que entre 800 a 2.000 metros cuadrados diarios se liberen (de minas). Hemos tenido un avance de más de 67 mil metros cuadrados con desminado manual”.

Los habitantes de la vereda Costa Rica podrán dedicarse a la siembra de cítricos y café, gracias al desminado. Betty Góngora, quien desde hace 55 años vive en esa vereda, dice que “en un tiempo colocaban muchas minas, tenemos vecinos víctimas, hoy ya no tenemos temores de minado, ni de violencia, ya podemos tener nuestros hijos aquí con nosotros, nos tocaba enviarlos a estudiar a otras zonas, ya estamos en familia; nos queda volver a cultivar, que nuestros hijos se formen empresarios aquí en las fincas y no tengan necesidad de ir a la ciudad a buscar oportunidades, acá cultivamos cítricos, plátano, maíz y café”.

En el departamento del Meta, la unidad tiene asignados cinco municipios: Vistahermosa, Mesetas, La Macarena, Mapiripán y Puerto Concordia
